Port Stephens

With 26 beaches and bays, scenic waterways and inlet as well as the odd “secret” romantic hidden spot just waiting for you to explore the Port Stephens Area is the perfect getaway destination for anyone and everyone.

The permanent home to hundreds of dolphins and with the yearly migration of whales swimming straight past the area, this makes Port Stephens the perfect place to set out for your whale watching adventure.

Nelson Bay offers plenty of tours departing daily, everything from kayaking and stand-up paddle board tours through to dinner cruises and game fishing charters.

The area hosts some of the best beachside alfresco dining with award winning restaurants and cafes or perhaps just simple fish n’ chips on the beach.

Enjoy the local attractions such as d’Albora Marinas or enjoy a drink and a bite to eat at Murrays Brewery. Locally grown Figs and Avocados can be picked at one of the local Farms. The Shark and Ray Centre is also a great family day out. Perhaps you prefer just to relax on the beach or try para-sailing or a spot of fishing, if it has anything to do with the water Port Stephens has everything you could want to do.

After a bit of action? bring your 4WD or hire a quad bike and enjoy the sand dunes over at Stockton Beach. The largest sand dunes in the Southern Hemisphere is a playground for the thrill seekers, fisherman, history buffs and even the skinny dippers over at the clothing optional Samurai Beach. Stockton Beach was used as a World War II bombing practice range and fortification against possible amphibious attacks, it was also used as a location for the Mad Max films. There have been numerous ship wreaks over the years and even a F-86 Sabrea aircraft crashed in 1960, part of the ships and aircraft still remain. There is the Famous “Tin City” that was home numerous squatters in the 1930’s depression, if it is history you crave Stockton is a great place to start.
